Working in a truly novel way, Stablon has the effect of contemporary and well known antidepressants like Prozac and Paxil but without the associated side effects.
Attracting the interest of the medical profession, Stablon is a truly innovative anti depressant medication. Rather than maximizing serotonin levels by blocking uptake, Stablon is an anti depressant which increases the body’s uptake or absorption of this important neurotransmitter. Antidepressant drugs such as Prozac and Paxil are known to cause certain side effects such as loss of libido/sexual appetite, drowsiness and weight gain – in the majority of cases. Stablon does not have these side effects attached.
How Stablon works as such an effective anti depressant medication is not yet known - it runs completely contrary to the thinking behind other antidepressant drugs. Producing exactly the same effect as contemporary anti depressant medication, Stablon is known as a selective serotonin reuptake enhancer – or SSRE. Prozac, for example, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor – or SSRI. In effect this means that drugs like Prozac and Paxil keep serotonin in the system and discourage the body to uptake the important neurotransmitter. Stablon does exactly the reverse and stimulates the body to take serotonin out of the system. The aim behind the process is to reduce the body’s brain and hormonal response to stress.
Stablon, also known as Tianeptine, was developed in France by Laboratoires Servier. A French overview of clinical trials into Stablon/Tianeptine found that 78% of patients were evaluated as ‘responders’ following treatment with Stablon.
Further studies and long term trials looked at treatment of elderly people and the effects of Stablon. The trials included the treatment of anxiety and somatic health complaints (conditions such as insomnia and fatigue which are commonly associated with depression) and found that Stablon was effective in treating these conditions, making it suitable across the entire range of depressive illnesses and symptoms.
Dr. Richard Brown – a renowned New York psychiatrist - reported positive results using Stablon with his patients. His studies concluded that it does not cause sexual dysfunction or weight gain and helps across a range of depressive conditions.
In one such example, Dr. Brown cited the effects on a woman patient in her 40s with mood instability and dysthymic disorder (a chronic, long term form of depression), coupled with recurrent major depression. Treatment with all available classes of anti-depressants and mood stabilizers had not been effective. Dr. Brown reported that the patient had the first favourable response in her life to Stablon and was consistently much better using this drug.
Another respected US physician, Robert Mason, concluded in a review of the new generation of anti-depressants, that Stablon “is a new and novel serotonin drug – its anti-depressant and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) properties and its action on somatic complaints makes the drug particularly suitable for the treatment of the entire range of depressive symptomatology (diseases and their symptoms).”
As a further indication of its ability to tackle a range of conditions, Dr. Mason noted trials that pointed towards the drug’s effectiveness in the treatment of depressed patients who suffered from anxiety, while Stablon also appeared to aid their sleep.
Research also points to success in treating depression and erectile dysfunction. The Elixir study, carried out in 2006 involved younger men (with a mean age of 36) taking Stablon for eight weeks. It found that more than 72 per cent of the group responded favourably to Stablon treatment, reporting lower levels of anxiety and depression and improvements in erectile difficulties, with almost 90 per cent of patients stating that it improved their ability to have sex.
Side effects are minimal, especially compared with other anti depressants. However, if combining with other anti-depressants, first seek the advice of your physician.
A typical dosage for Stablon is 12.5mg, taken two or three times a day. Stablon is an effective drug because of its counter-intuitive way of working, which eliminates the side effects of many contemporary treatments, so you don’t suffer loss of libido, sleep and get all the benefits of Stablon’s calm thinking.

Have you heard of customers using stablon with low ‘anti-aging’ doses of deprenyl/selegiline?
With regard to tianeptine (Stablon®) and deprenyl, there are many people using low dose deprenyl with anti-depressants that are MAO inhibitors. Of course deprenyl in low dosages is only a MAO-b inhibitor, and most anti-depressants contraindicate with MAO-a inhibitors, and every other drug that is a MAO inhibitor is an inhibitor of MAO-a. Under such circumstances we would recommend the deprenyl liquid over the tablets, because then low dosages can be easily titrated, i.e. 1-2-3mg per day. However, this does not of course mean that there will be no contraindication for you, and that we have to advise that in all such circumstances that you follow the advice of your physician etc.
Typical dosages are 12.5mg two or three times daily.
Like most anti-depressants, Stablon could interfere with other anti-depressants, particularly MAO inhibitors (including Gerovital-H3) and other SSRIs such as Prozac®. Therefore, if you intend to combine Stablon with any other anti-depressants, you must only do so under the guidance of a physician.
