For Baldness and Enlarged Prostate
An enlarged prostate, known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BHP), is a very common condition that occurs as men age. Dutasteride (Avodart) is a benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment, which is not only an effective BHP treatment, it also treats male pattern baldness, which is why many men take Dutasteride for hair loss.
An enlarged prostate, known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BHP), is a very common condition that occurs as men age. Dutasteride (Avodart) is a benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment, which is not only an effective BHP treatment, it also treats male pattern baldness. Many men take Dutasteride for hair loss.
As men age, their prostate glands grow larger, which can cause problems in midlife and beyond. Dutasteride treats many of the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. But in addition to using it as a benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment (BPH treatment), a lot of men take Dutasteride for hair loss and male pattern baldness. Since it is very effective in delaying age-related hair thinning, it is recommended to use Avodart for hair loss.
While the symptoms of BHP can be mild at first, they can increase with alarming severity, significantly impacting on the sufferer’s quality of life. Avordart / Dutasteride provides a benign prostatic hyperplasia treatment that relieves these symptoms at the source. Dutasteride can also dramatically improve other age-related conditions, such as male pattern baldness, which is why many people use Avodart for hair loss.
The prostate gland is a walnut-shaped organ that is part of the male reproductive system. It is located in front of the rectum, just below the base of the bladder. The gland is made up of two regions, enclosed by an outer layer of tissue.
During the course of a man’s life, the prostate gland goes through two main periods of growth. The first is during puberty when sex hormones produced by the testicles causes it to double in size. The second is around the age of 25, when the prostate gland starts to grow again.
During the second period of growth, the cells in the central portion of the prostate gland reproduce more rapidly, but the layer of tissue surrounding it stops it from expanding. This leads to various problems, including causing the bladder to contract more frequently without emptying itself entirely.
The likelihood of experiencing problems associated with an enlarged prostate gland increases to 50% in men over the age of 50, and 90% in men over 80.
The symptoms range in severity, but the most common include:
If left untreated, benign prostatic hyperplasia can become severe, which can cause serious health problems, including urinary tract infections, bladder or kidney damage, bladder stones and incontinence.
The reason why the prostate gland continues to grow is not entirely understood, but one theory focuses on the androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a substance derived from testosterone.
Most animals stop producing DHT as they age, however older men continue to produce high levels of DHT in the prostate, which are thought to encourage the growth of cells. This leads to benign prostatic hyperplasia. Avodart works by preventing the conversion of testosterone into DHT and shrinking the prostate over time.
DHT also plays a major role in male pattern hair loss, particularly on the top of the head and mid-scalp area. Avodart has been shown to be effective in increasing the number of scalp hairs and filling in thin areas. Results vary, but the improvements can be significant in many men.
The usual dose of Avodart is around 0.5mg daily, as prescribed by your doctor. It may sometimes be prescribed in conjunction with other medication uses to treat male urinary symptoms, known as Tamsulosin (Flomax).
Avodart has few, if any side effects, and most disappear during treatment. You may experience:

As men age, physiological changes mean they become more prone to certain conditions. Across the majority of males, one such condition that’s particularly debilitating is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BHP) or as it’s more commonly known - an enlarged prostate.
The symptoms of BHP greatly affect the ability to urinate. Not only are they characterized by painful and strong, sudden urges to pass urine, but emptying the bladder completely, becomes difficult.
Why the prostate gland continues to grow is believed to be because of the androgen dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Derived from testosterone, this naturally occurring substance doesn’t stop being produced - even when it’s no longer needed, continually being produced to enlarge prostate size.
This is where Dutasteride (Avodart) or avodart capsules get straight to work – blocking the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
Not only does it bring the benefits of addressing Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BHP), Dutasteride (Avodart)/avodart capsules work to reduce hair loss or hair fall. This is why many men seek Dutasteride (Avodart) as not just a BHP treatment but also as a treatment for male pattern baldness – the most common form of alopecia.
Your doctor should always be consulted before any course of medical treatment is begun but Avodart side effects are generally minimal. A daily dutasteride 0.5 mg dose will see the benefits of a reduced prostate size and see hair on the scalp increasing in thickness and volume.
To take the direct route to reduce prostate inflammation and increase hair growth, take avodart capsules.
Each Avodart capsule contains 0.5mg of the active ingredient, Dutasteride. There are also some inactive ingredients in your medicine. The solution inside the capsule shell contains mono and diglycerides of caprylic/ capric and butylated hydoxytoluene (E321). The capsule shell contains gelatin, glycerol, titanium dioxide (E171), iron oxide yellow (E172), triglycerides, lecithin, and red printing ink containing iron oxide (E172) as the colorant, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol.
What Avodart does
Avodart belongs to a group of medicines called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, which are used to treat men who have a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a condition in which the prostate gland, which is near the bladder, becomes large enough to squeeze the urine tube making it more difficult for you to pass urine. When this happens you may have some or all of the following symptoms:
How Avodart works
Prostate growth is caused by a hormone called dihydrotestosterone, (DHT), which is present in blood. Avodart lowers the production of this hormone, leading to reduction in size of the prostate in most men. In order to treat your symptoms and control your BPH effectively, it is important that you continue to take avodart for as long as your doctor prescribes it, even if you do not feel an immediate benefit. Some patients show early improvements in symptoms, but most men may need to take Avodart for up to 6 months to see if it helps. Avodart works best when taken long term.
Before you take Avodart
This medicine is for men only and should not be taken or handled by women, children or adolescents.
You should NOT take Avodart if you:
