Catalase is an enzyme that is only found in living organisms that are exposed to oxygen – this is because it helps to catalyze hydrogen peroxide decomposition to oxygen and water. It is found in many vegetables including leeks, onions, broccoli and spinach and fruits such as watermelon, bananas, kiwis and pineapple. It is also found in wheat grass and sprouts, as well as contained in a range of supplements.
Catalase is important to the human body as it helps to protect living cells from oxidative stress or damage.
