Acarbose is a drug that belongs to the alpha-glucosidase inhibitor group. It works to slow down the enzymes in the body that turn food into sugar, which in turn reduces sugar highs and helps to regulate glucose.

Acarbose is often taken by diabetics to help normalize insulin and glucose levels in the body, and can also be used in the management of weight control, high cholesterol and cardiovascular conditions
