Essential Daily Defense - The Ultimate Detoxifier

We hear about it all the time – the world is becoming more and more polluted. But whilst the effects of all this toxic pollution can often be clearly be seen in nature, have you ever stop to think about just what all this toxic pollution might be doing to you as it gets inside your body?

The fact that we’re talking about something that is toxic gives us a very strong clue to the answer to this question. If something is toxic, it is not good news. A toxic chemical can at the very least harm us and in the worst case scenario kill us. In the context of this discussion, we are specifically talking about a rather ill-defined group of chemical elements known as heavy metals, sometimes referred to as toxic metals. Although the definition of what constitutes a heavy metal is not particularly clear, it does encompass metal elements such as copper, lead and zinc.

If toxic heavy metal pollution is so bad for us then surely the answer is to simply avoid exposure to it in the first place. Unfortunately, it’s just not that easy. In today’s world, it is just not possible to avoid heavy metal pollution. The pollutants are all around us - lead in petrol, industrial effluents and metal ions that leach from the soil into lakes and rivers via acid rain to name but a few. Of course, some heavy metals occur naturally, but unfortunately man’s activities have served to exacerbate the situation. The bottom line is that it is impossible for us to avoid exposure to them and it’s inevitable that our bodies will ingest and absorb them. Even something as innocent as drinking water may contain trace amounts of heavy metals including aluminium, copper and lead.

But before we get carried away and think they we are all doomed, we should remember that not all heavy metals are bad for us, at least in small amounts. Some heavy metals such as iron, copper manganese and zinc are essential if our bodies are to function properly. Look at zinc for instance. Zinc is found in virtually every cell in the body and the reason for this is because, in small amounts, zinc is good for us. It’s involved in a whole range of important bodily functions such as helping wounds to heal, supporting our immune systems and stimulating the activity of approximately 100 enzymes.

Other heavy metals such as mercury, lead and plutonium are just downright bad for us. They are toxic to our bodies and have no known beneficial health effects. Their accumulation over time can lead to serious illness. Take the example of mercury. Mercury, which is known to be easily absorbed and assimilated into our bodies, is a powerful neurotoxin. It can cause a whole range of problems including mental confusion, short term memory loss and speech disorders. It’s even been implicated in neuro- degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

You might be forgiven for thinking at this point that surely there really isn’t that much of a problem because our bodies are generally very good at getting rid of things that they don’t need. But, this where the issue with heavy metals becomes more complicated. Heavy metals remain in our bodies for very long periods of time, some perhaps even indefinitely. This means that even for those heavy metals that are beneficial to us, there is always a danger of their levels becoming too high, because we simply cannot get rid of any excess quickly enough. Take the example of mercury again. Even though our bodies absorb mercury easily, it’s very hard to get rid of and has a 20 year half life in the brain.

Accumulations of heavy metals often occur in those parts of the body that have a poor blood supply because the circulatory system acts as the body’s main physiological mechanism to transport heavy metals to sites where they can be safely excreted from the body. So, for example, accumulations of lead often occur in the brain and the bones - both parts of the body that have poor blood supply when compared say with the heart or the liver. Once inside us, it is very difficult to remove. This is also why mercury accumulates within the brain and causes neurological problems.

Fortunately there is something that we can do. We can’t avoid heavy metal exposure and the subsequent absorption into our bodies, but can help our bodies get rid of heavy metals once they are there. To do this we need to use a process called chelation. It’s not new - it’s been around since the First World War when poisonous gas attacks caused mayhem - but it works.

Basically chelation therapy uses chelators to bind with the heavy metals in the body in order to form chelates. This process results in the heavy metals losing their chemical effects (i.e. either their toxicity or physiological activity). Think of it like this - chelating agents act like specialized cleaning products acting to cleanse the body of these especially hard to remove toxins. And the unique, proprietary formula used in Essential Daily Defense can provide you with just the right chelation therapy.

Based on 30 years work of two leading experts in their respective fields (Dr Garry Gordon in relation to chelation and Dr Lester Morrison in relation to arteriosclerosis),Essential Daily Defense combines EDTA and garlic together with other ingredients such as red yeast and Betaine to help the body excrete not just heavy metals but also other undesirable toxins and lipids. In fact, Essential Daily Defense is such a powerful chelator that many health professionals now use this formula instead of intravenous therapies for most heavy metal toxicities, including those of lead, mercury and cadmium.

Just about every health problem is aggravated by heavy metal toxicity from heart disease through to cancer, by using Essential Daily Defense to remove this aggravating factor not only will you be healthier but you’ll also be improving your chances of living healthier and longer. Just think - research has shown that diseased hearts have 20,000 times more toxic heavy metals than healthy hearts!

Consider also that the reason why women generally live longer than men might be down to heavy metal damage. Researchers now think that lead toxicity and the fact that it increases the risks of developing diseases such as arthritis, diabetes and most importantly heart disease and cancer, may have a role to play in this gender inequality. Once men absorb lead, it has no where to go whereas pre-menopausal women do at least lose some iron each month with their menstrual blood loss.

What’s more, Essential Daily Defense also actively seeks to control any excessive blood clotting tendencies. As we all know blood clots can have catastrophic effects. They block arteries and, depending on where in the body the blockage occurs, can lead to a heart attack or stroke. In fact, over 85% of deaths from heart attack or stroke are thought to be due to blood clots. If you can reduce any excessive blood clotting tendency, then you reduce your risk of suffering from one of these devastating events. Add to this the ability of Essential Daily Defense to reduce cholesterol and you can begin to see why Essential Daily Defense really is the ultimate detoxifier.
