There is no doubt that Cancer is a huge and increasing blight on modern society. Is there more cancer today than 100 years ago, or are we just more aware of it now? There are differing opinions on the subject; some believing that our diet, replete with abundant quantities of highly processed foods and denatured soils, is at least, partly to blame. Others believe that it may be hardwired into your genetics, in which case you may be destined to suffer from it. Whatever your view, cancer continues baffling medical science, and the wealth of alternative products available may well have something important to offer. There is a huge range of products available, too many to mention, for treating many different types of cancers. Therefore, the few products mentioned in this article are those that have shown positive effects in research studies.
While there is no evidence that Biostim is a cure for cancer, it has been shown to be beneficial to the health and well-being of cancer patients. Lang and co-workers first documented the benefits of Biostim in 1980 when 8 mg per day was given to 6 cancer patients for 15 days. All of the patients initially showed a lack of delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity (DCH) which related to levels of immunity. By stimulating the immune system, Biostim has been shown through clinical trials to protect against illness caused by bacteria, fungi, and viruses in those with depressed immune system function. Regular use is believed to lower the incidence and risk of infection.
While you may not have heard of Resveratrol, you may well have heard about the benefits of a glass of red wine. That magic ingredient is a plant molecule, and is found in trace amounts in the skins of red grapes! While there is some debate as to exactly how Resveratrol works, it is believed that it targets a particular enzyme, which then mimics calorie restriction effects, including an increase in the production of new mitochondria (the main constituents of body cells associated with energy). One of the side effects of energy release is the production of free radicals, which can be thought of as the sparks generated from a raging fire. Free radicals can damage DNA, and over time, the mitochondria, which in turn negatively affects their efficiency. These causative reactions are thought to be increasingly linked to aging. Resveratrol, it appears, has the ability to replace the damaged mitochondria with that which is new and effective, meaning fewer, damaging free radicals are created. It is currently touted to slow the onset or progression of a number of age-related diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, adult onset diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
Laetrile, which is extracted from apricot kernels, is also purported to have many beneficial effects in treating cancer. It has been the subject of clinical trials that have shown it to reduce or, in certain circumstances, eliminate the pain associated with cancer. Furthermore, improvements were noted in appetite and weight gain in underweight patients. Tumor reduction was also noted in animal experiments. Laetrile can be given intravenously as well as orally.
Arimidex is being used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It appears to slow tumor growth within the breast, as well as cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is also used in cases of advanced breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, and is then following up with Tamoxifen (Nolvadex).
Arimidex is thought to be particularly useful in tackling the type of cancer that thrives on estrogen. It suppresses an enzyme that is responsible for converting an adrenal hormone into a form of estrogen, thereby reducing the amount of estrogen in the body.
BEC5 is a topical cream that contains a specially purified plant extract from the Solanum Sodomaeum, or Devil's Apple- found in Australasia. The extract, known as Solasodine Glycosides, (0.005%) is also found in smaller quantities in eggplant and aubergine. Through two decades of research and clinical trials, biochemist, Dr. Cham has discovered that BEC5 when applied topically can eradicate non-melanoma skin cancers, specifically:-
It has also proved very beneficial in treating benign tumours, such as:-
"Not only was the cream totally free from any biochemical or clinical side effects, it also proved to be 100% effective in the prevention and treatment of solar keratoses, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma..." Dr. Bill Cham.
Numerous clinical trials in Australia and Great Britain have confirmed BEC5's curative ability to regress non-melanoma skin cancers. One such open study of 72 patients, resulted in the regression of all treated lesions (56 actinic keratoses, 39 BCCs and 29 SCCs), which were healed completely after 1 to 13 weeks of treatment.
Additionally, trials in 10 UK hospitals found that a twice daily topical application of BEC5 cream to affected areas gave a complete remission to 78% of the patients within 8-weeks; with the remaining 22% requiring longer treatment times. The dermatologists at the Royal London Hospital concluded that: "BEC5 is a topical preparation that is safe and effective, an ideal therapy for outpatient treatment... It is a cost effective treatment for both primary and secondary skin cancer care."
Proper nutrition is now seen as a vitally important part of cancer therapy, if not curative. At the very least, mainstream medical and alternative practitioners recommend a diet rich in good quality fruits, vegetables, salads, organic or at least pasture fed and free range meats, deep sea fish, seeds and nuts. Equally, refined and highly processed foods, often high in hydrogenated, trans fats should be kept to a minimum, if not eliminated, and good quality fats should be emphasized.
Exercise in moderation is linked to reduced rates of cancer, so it’s important to include this as a part of your lifestyle. Moderate exercise is generally seen as 30 to 60 minutes gentle exercise a minimum of 3-4 times a week.
Getting enough good quality sleep is also important. There are many research studies pointing to the detrimental effects of insufficient sleep.
Finally, cancer is increasingly being linked to exposure to environmental toxins, so these should be reduced wherever possible. Environmental toxins are present in the air, our water, food that has been grown in denatured soils and/or with pesticides and herbicides, as well as household chemical cleaners, cheap personal hygiene products and synthetic air fresheners.
