Sinemet CR helps to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and increase growth hormone levels

Sinemet CR contains L-dopa and Carbidopa. Typically, a Sinemet CR tablet will contain 100mg of L-dopa and 25mg of Carbidopa. The "CR" indicates that the tablets are formulated for slow release.

L-dopa is an aminoacid and the precursor of Dopamine, the powerful brain neurotransmitter that is linked with drive, libido, memory and attention. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter most affected by Parkinson's disease, which is why Sinemet is a frontline treatment for this illness.

L-dopa is the only way that Dopamine can be delivered through the blood-brain barrier. Developed in the 1970s, it was brought to wider public attention in the Hollywood film, The Sleepers, starring Robin Williams.

Apart from the treatment of Parkinson's disease, and the ability of L-dopa to increase brain Dopamine levels, L-dopa is also known to be a very potent anti-oxidant. Perhaps the most common, ‘non-standard’ use of L-dopa is to increase Growth Hormone (GH) levels. To this end, L-dopa is a powerful agonist. One study was noted in the book; Life Extension, when L-dopa at 500mg a day in healthy men aged 60 years increased their GH levels to the levels of men nearer the biological age of 30 years.

Dosage:
Take 100mg (maximum 200mg) daily. For GH release, the tablets are best taken prior to bedtime.

Caution:
Sinemet should not be taken with other Dopamine enhancing substances (such as Bromocriptine, Deprenyl and Hydergine) unless under the supervision of a physician. A British trial showed an increased mortality in Parkinson's patients who consumed both L-dopa and Deprenyl. We disagree with these findings because there were numerous flaws in the trial and many other trials have shown purely beneficial results. However, we still feel it should be brought to your attention.

Sinemet is the safest form of L-dopa. This is because of its combination with Carbidopa, which helps prevent L-dopa crossing into blood before being delivered to the brain. Vitamin B6 helps to breakdown L-dopa into Dopamine, and for many years patients were told NOT to ingest B6 with L-dopa. Now the addition of Carbidopa in Sinemet has helped to prevent this process, and make it safer to use L-dopa. It is also believed to be beneficial if Vitamin C is taken with Sinemet as it is used in its pathways. Overall, Sinemet should remain a drug only for the most committed and knowledgeable life extensionist.
