Essential Daily Defense - The Ultimate Detoxifier
We live in a toxic world from the air that we breathe to the food that we eat and even to the amalgam fillings in our teeth – all of these things can introduce toxins to our bodies. And by their very nature, toxins can be harmful to us.
Heavy metal toxins in particular present us with an especially difficult hazard to our health. Many of the toxins that we ingest only remain in our bodies for a relatively short period of time, but, unfortunately, our bodies can retain heavy metals for long periods of time. Some may even remain indefinitely.
What are these heavy metals and why are they so bad for us?
The term ‘heavy metals’ belongs in the realms of chemistry but it is a term that is very hard to define accurately. Indeed, some people prefer to use the term ‘toxic metals’ instead. Whichever term is used, there is no exact definition to this ill-defined subset of chemical elements that exhibit metallic properties. But however this group of chemical elements is defined, and the definition may vary depending on context, it does appear to include metals such as copper, lead, and zinc.
Whilst heavy metals occur naturally in varying concentrations within our ecosystem, more and more are derived from anthropogenic sources i.e. from human activities. And even if it is hard to define exactly what constitutes a heavy metal, there can be no doubt that heavy metals arising from these anthropogenic sources are a cause of environmental pollution (sometimes called heavy-metal pollution). This sort of pollution arises in a number of different ways ranging from the lead in petrol, from industrial effluents, and from the leaching of metal ions from soil into lakes and rivers via acid rain. As such it’s impossible for us to avoid exposure to them.
That’s not to say that all heavy metals are bad for us. Some heavy metals such as iron, copper manganese and zinc are essential if our bodies are to function properly. Take the example of zinc. It’s involved in a whole range of important bodily functions including immune system support, helping with wound healing and stimulating the activity of approximately 100 enzymes. As such, zinc is found in almost every cell in the body.
Problems arise, however, if levels of these essential heavy metals become too high. If this happens, their effects then become damaging and detrimental to us.
Other heavy metals such as mercury, lead and plutonium are simply toxic to our bodies. They have no known beneficial effects, and their accumulation over time can lead to serious illness. For example mercury is known to be a powerful neurotoxin. Numerous studies have identified the symptoms of the damage that mercury can cause ranging from mental confusion, short term memory loss and speech disorders all the way through to being implicated in neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
As mentioned above, the problems associated with heavy metal toxicity are exacerbated by the fact that heavy metals remain in our bodies for very long periods of time or even indefinitely. This means that for even those heavy metals that are beneficial to us, there is always a danger of their levels becoming too high, because we simply cannot get rid of any excess quickly enough.
The circulatory system is the main physiological mechanism used by the body to transport heavy metals to sites where they can be safely excreted from the body. This means that accumulations of heavy metals often occur in those parts of the body that have a poor blood supply. Take the example of mercury again. Mercury can be easily absorbed and assimilated into our bodies but, once inside us, it is very difficult to remove. It has a 20 year half life in the brain. This is because large areas of the brain have comparatively little blood supply than, for example, the heart or the liver. It is a similar situation with lead. Lead tends to accumulate in both the brain and the bones - again areas that have comparatively poor blood supplies.
How can Essential Daily Defense help rid our body of these harmful toxins?
So far, all that we have discussed seems very depressing but the good news is that help is at hand. By using a process known as chelation (pronounced key-lation) therapy, it is possible to rid the body of these potentially harmful toxins. Chelation therapy uses chelators to bind with the heavy metals in the body in order to form chelates. This process results in the heavy metals losing their chemical effects (i.e. either their toxicity or physiological activity). Think of it like this - chelating agents behave like specialized cleaning products acting to cleanse the body of these especially hard to remove toxins.
Furthermore, the unique, proprietary formula used in Essential Daily Defense can provide you with just the right chelation therapy. In fact, Essential Daily Defense is such a powerful chelator that many health professionals now use this formula instead of intravenous therapies for most heavy metal toxicities, including those of lead, mercury and cadmium.
Based on 30 years work of two leading experts in their respective fields (Dr Garry Gordon in relation to chelation and Dr Lester Morrison in relation to arteriosclerosis), the formula in Essential Daily Defense combines EDTA and garlic together with other ingredients such as red yeast and Betaine to help the body excrete not just heavy metals but also undesirable toxins and lipids.
Essential Daily Defence and life extension
By using Essential Daily Defense, not only will you ridding your body of these hazardous heavy metals and toxins, but you may also be helping to prolong your life. This is because researchers have been able to demonstrate that excess heavy metal toxicity can aggravate almost every health problem you can think of including cancer and heart disease. For example in 1999, it was reported that diseased hearts have 20,000 times more toxic heavy metals than healthy hearts. By using chelation to remove these potentially harmful heavy metals, you’re taking away this aggravation factor.
Essential Daily Defence and its relevance in iron reduction and life extension
Life extension may also be particularly relevant to iron. While iron is a necessary nutrient, it is only needed in small amounts. High levels of iron are especially associated with:
1. An increased risk of developing cancer; Research has shown that people with high levels of iron have an increased risk for cancer (1,2). The reason for this seems to be that iron acts as a cancer-promoting agent by increasing the production of free radicals. In fact, the production of free radicals is largely proportionate to the level of iron in the body. This means that the more iron there is, the more free radicals will be produced and thus the greater the risk of cancer. Iron also feeds cancer cells as it is the nutrient that cancer cells need the most. The more iron that is available, the more the cancer cells will divide and flourish, and the better chance they have of killing the host.
2. An increased risk of developing heart disease; The free radicals produced by iron may also lead to heart attacks. This is because free radicals can damage (oxidize) cholesterol in the blood. Oxidized cholesterol is far more likely to ‘get stuck’ in arteries and blood vessels, especially in those arteries that supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients. As the arteries become more clogged, the inside of the arteries narrows which results in less blood reaching the heart. If the blood flow becomes so reduced that the heart can no longer receive sufficient nutrients and oxygen, parts of the heart tissue may die – a heart attack.
The risk of developing other diseases such as endocrine conditions, arthritis, diabetes, and liver disease is also increased if iron levels are too high.
The problem of high levels of iron is particularly relevant to men and indeed it may be one of the reasons why women live longer than men. Both men and women absorb iron from the food that they eat. The difference is that once men absorb iron there is effectively no way for any excess to leave their bodies. Pre-menopausal women, on the other hand, are generally, although not completely, protected from the dangers of excess iron because they regularly lose iron by way of menstrual blood loss. Of course, women lose this protection after the menopause.
The unique formula of Essential Daily Defense is able to directly address the dangers of too much iron. The inclusion of malic acid (apple acid) provides for safe iron chelation. Whilst the chelation effect provided is not strong enough to induce anaemia, it is powerful enough to curtail the likelihood of excessive free radical formation.
Essential Daily Defence and its Anti-Thrombotic Properties
The life prolonging properties of Essential Daily Defense don’t stop with a focus on iron reduction. At the same as providing superior chelation therapy, Essential Daily Defence also actively seeks to control any excessive blood clotting tendencies.
Blood clots (thrombosis) can have catastrophic effects - those that block coronary arteries result in heart attacks and those that block arteries supplying the brain result in ischemic strokes ( ischemic strokes account for around 80% of all strokes). Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the United States. Approximately 1.1 million Americans suffer heart attacks each year, with around 460,000 of them dying as a result. Stroke is the nation’s third leading killer claiming the lives of more than 150,000 Americans each year with around 700,000 people experiencing a new or recurrent stroke each year. Approximately 85% of these deaths from heart attack and stroke are thought to be due to blood clots.
The anti-thrombotic activity in Essential Daily Defense is achieved due to the unique synergy of the sulfated polysaccharide (red algae/carrageenan) with EDTA. And by reducing any excessive clotting tendencies, Essential Daily Defense can play an important part in helping you reduce your risk of suffering from any such potentially devastating medical event.
Furthermore even more cardio-vascular protection is provided by Essential Daily Defence’s ability to lower cholesterol levels. This is achieved through its excess lipid lowering capabilities.
Given all these amazing properties, Essential Daily Defense really is the ultimate detoxifier. No other garlic-based product comes close to the powerful, synergistic combination of natural chelating and detoxification actions of this unique formula.
