PROPECIA ®

INGREDIENTS:
Each PROPECIA tablet contains: Finasteride 1mg. Inactive excipients: Monohydrated lactose (110.4), microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised starch, sodium starch glycolate, docusate sodium, magnesium stearate, talc, hypromellose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, titanium dioxide (colour E171), yellow and red ferric oxide (colour 172) 1 tablet.

PHARMACEUTICAL FORM AND CONTENTS OF CONTAINER:
Coated tablet. PROPECIA is available in a 28-tablet box. Each tablet contains 1 mg of Finasteride.

ACTIVITY:
PROPECIA blocks an enzyme (5-alpha reductase, Type 2), which intervenes in the regulation of the hair follicle.

INDICATIONS:
Your doctor has prescribed PROPECIA to you because you are suffering from male hair loss (also known as androgenetic alopecia). PROPECIA is for men only.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Women must not use PROPECIA (see Pregnancy). If you believe you are allergic to the ingredients in PROPECIA, do not take the product. Children must not take PROPECIA.

CAUTION:
Tell your doctor about any current and past medical problems, and any allergies which you may have.

INTERACTIONS:
As a rule, PROPECIA does not interfere with other medicines. Nonetheless, always inform your doctor of any medicines you are taking or intend to take, including those sold over the counter. There is no need to alter your regular hair care routine.

WARNINGS:
Men with mild to moderate but not complete hair loss can expect good results from using PROPECIA. Studies have shown that PROPECIA is not an effective anti-hair loss treatment in women (androgenetic alopecia).

Driving:
PROPECIA does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Pregnancy:
PROPECIA is intended only for treating hair loss in men. Women cannot use PROPECIA due to the risk of pregnancy. Women who are or may be pregnant should not even handle broken or crushed PROPECIA tablets. If a woman pregnant with a male foetus absorbs the active agent in PROPECIA by swallowing it or absorbing it through the skin, her son may be born with abnormalities in his sexual organs. Any pregnant woman who has come into contact with PROPECIA should consult her doctor. PROPECIA tablets are coated so as to prevent contact with the ingredient during ordinary handling, provided the tablets are not broken or crushed. Should you have any questions, consult your doctor.

DOSAGE:
Take one PROPECIA tablet daily, with or without food. Follow your doctor's advice.

  • Taking more than one tablet daily will not make PROPECIA act faster or more effectively. Take only one tablet per day.
  • Your doctor will help you determine whether or not PROPECIA is giving you results. It is important to take PROPECIA for as long as your doctor tells you to do so. PROPECIA only has long-term effects if its use is continued.
  • Male hair loss is a process that develops over a long period of time. In general, for you to notice increased hair growth or the prevention of further hair loss, you may have to take this medicine daily for 3 to 6 months or longer.
  • Continued use of PROPECIA is recommended to maintain its benefits.

If you stop taking PROPECIA, you will probably lose the hair you have regained within 9 to 12 months following interruption of treatment.

Make a concerted effort to take PROPECIA as your doctor has told you. However, should you miss a dose, do not take an extra dose. Simply take the next tablet as usual.

DIRECTIONS:
PROPECIA can be taken with or without food.

OVERDOSE:
In the event of overdose or accidental swallowing, consult a doctor immediately.

ADVERSE REACTIONS:
Like any medicine, PROPECIA may have unsought or undesirable effects, or what are known as adverse reactions. These are rare and do not affect the majority of men. Only a small number of men will experience decreased libido and/or difficulty in achieving an erection. An even smaller number may have problems with ejaculation, including a decrease in the amount of semen ejaculated during sex (although this effect does not seem to interfere with normal sexual functioning). Clinical studies have shown that these adverse reactions will disappear in men who stop treatment with PROPECIA and in many who continue treatment. In general, rare cases of the following adverse reactions have been reported: allergic reactions including skin rash, itchiness, welts and swelling of the lips and face; sensitivity and swelling of breast area, testicular pain. Should you notice these or any other symptoms, consult your doctor or chemist as soon as possible. Clinical studies have shown that PROPECIA does not affect the hair of other parts of the body.

STORAGE:
PROPECIA reacts to dampness. Keep PROPECIA in its original container. Do not give your PROPECIA tablets to anyone else.

EXPIRY DATE:
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date marked on the box.
